The following volunteer opportunities support our students and teachers. Your support makes these initiatives possible.
Room Parents and Room Parent Helpers (Pre-K thru 5th grade)
Two to three parents per classroom are needed to organize three classroom holiday parties, help with special events during the year, and communicate PTO information to parents two to three times a year. You don’t do all the work yourself – just get the ball rolling and ask for help from other parents in your class. Room Parents/Helpers training will be held on Wednesday, August 28th, at 3:30 p.m.Coordinator: Tracy Kirchhoff
Field Day
Winfield teachers will be organizing a Field Day for students on Wednesday, May 28th. Volunteers will be needed throughout the day to run different stations and activities. More information will be forthcoming as exact needs are determined.8th Grade Springfield Trip (8th grade parents)
Parents are needed to chaperone this overnight field trip scheduled for November 19th – 20th.Coordinator: Steve Kahlfeldt, Social Studies Teacher
8th Grade Promotion Preparation (7th grade parents)
7th grade parents are needed to create decorations for 8th grade promotion on Monday, June 2nd. Using materials provided, you will assemble: shadowbox at school, silhouettes, baby pictures & essay, and a “remember me when” wall. Flower orders also needed. (Guidelines will be provided)Coordinator: Ruth Gauss
8th Grade Promotion Decorating (7th grade parents)
7th grade parents are needed to arrange for rental equipment, organize & purchase decorations, and decorate the gym and cafeteria using purchased materials and those created by the Preparation committee. (Guidelines will be provided)Coordinator: NEEDED
8th Grade Promotion Reception (7th grade parents)
7th grade parents are needed to help order, set-up, serve & clean-up the refreshments for 8th grade promotion (Guidelines will be provided)Coordinators: Tracy Wasserstrom & Mary Lisching
8th Grade Promotion Dance (8th Grade Parents)
8th grade parents are needed to coordinate a “low-key” dance for the 8th grade students, including the DJ (names provided), snacks and parental supervision from 8-10 p.m. The dance will be held in the Central School Commons following the promotion ceremony and reception on June 2nd.Coordinator: Cherie Stone
Student Council Dance Chaperones
Student Council needs parents willing to chaperone school dances/events on October 18th, February 14th and May 16th.Coordinator: Patti Hennessy, Student Council Sponsor
Sports Awards Night – Coordinators:, David Brach & Ray Serbick, Activities Directors
Volunteers are needed to assist with serving refreshments at our annual awards event on Tuesday, May 20th. Look for information coming out closer to the event.Library Help
Volunteers are needed to read to our younger students and assist with a variety of duties, including shelving books. Schedule is flexible and this is a great opportunity for grandparents to get involved!Coordinator: Marie Arnett, Library Technician
Fall School Pictures
Fall Picture Day is Wednesday, October 9th. Volunteers are needed in both buildings in the morning to bring the students from their classrooms and assist where needed. One additional parent is needed to assist with afternoon preschool and kindergarten students. One volunteer in each building is also needed in November/December for picture re-takes.Coordinator: Wendy Pastrick
Spring Class Pictures
Class pictures will be taken outdoors on Tuesday, April 15th. One volunteer is needed in each building in the morning to bring the classes to the picture location and assist where needed.Coordinator: Wendy Pastrick
Fall & Spring Book Fairs
The Fall Book Fair will be held on November 12th – 14th. The Spring Book Fair is scheduled for April 8th – 10th.Coordinator: Becca Garretson, Reading Specialist
Volunteers are needed during the fair plus the day before for set-up and after for clean-up. Proceeds are used to purchase more books for classroom libraries and the Literacy Closet.
Winfield Education Foundation (WEF)
Volunteer with the Winfield Education Foundation (WEF), a fundraising venture which aims to support innovative educational objectives that are not covered in District 34's budget. WEF seeks grants and corporate donations to provide upgrades to technology, teacher training, field trips, and more. You can help by assisting with grant research (online research you can do from home, at your convenience!) or by becoming a member of the WEF and attending meetings every 2-3 months throughout the school year. General Volunteer Opportunities
The following volunteer opportunities work towards our goal of building a strong school community. Your involvement helps us create an environment where students and teachers can have the best educational experience possible.
Hospitality Committee
Volunteers are needed to help with writing thank you notes to businesses, individuals and groups who support our school and to volunteers whose time and talents are so crucial to our success. This can be done from the comfort of your own home.Coordinator: Angela Walker
Staff Appreciation
Volunteers are needed to assist with Staff Appreciation ideas and events. This year, PTO would like to show its appreciation to staff and teachers throughout the year. Volunteers will meet to organize thoughtful ideas and help implement them, possibly around important events like curriculum night, parent-teacher conferences, ISAT testing week, etc.Coordinator: Jennie Fleming
Family Fun
Volunteers are needed to create and promote social gatherings where families and staff can have fun and meet other families. Activities to be scheduled throughout the school year.Coordinator: Wendee Passini
